Getting Here
How to Get to Isla Mujeres
Cancún to our front door, in about two hours.
Getting to Isla Mujeres is much simpler than it might sound — and most guests are surprised by how quick the journey turns out to be. You fly into Cancún International Airport, take ground transportation across to the ferry terminal, and ride a fifteen-minute ferry across some of the most beautiful turquoise water in the Caribbean. From the ferry terminal on the island, the home is a short golf-cart ride or taxi away. The whole journey, door to door, runs about two hours.
Below is everything you need to know — the airport, the ferry options, the timing, and a few practical tips we have learned over the years from our own family's trips here and our guests' arrivals.
Step by Step
From Cancún Airport to Isla Mujeres
Fly into Cancún International Airport (CUN)
Cancún International Airport is the closest major airport to Isla Mujeres, with direct flights from most major cities in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The airport is located about 20 miles (30 km) south of the ferry terminals.
Get to the Ferry Terminal (30-40 minutes)
From the airport, you have several options to reach the ferry terminal:
Private transfer / shuttle — The most convenient option. Many services offer door-to-terminal transfers. We can help arrange this through our concierge.
Taxi — Available outside the terminal. Expect to pay approximately $40-60 USD to Puerto Juárez. Agree on the price before getting in.
Rideshare (Uber/InDriver) — Available at the airport. Generally $25-40 USD to Puerto Juárez. Pick up at designated areas.
Take the Ferry to Isla Mujeres (15-20 minutes)
The Ultramar ferry is the primary passenger service from the mainland to Isla Mujeres. Ferries depart approximately every 30 minutes throughout the day.
Arrive on Isla Mujeres
You will arrive at the main ferry terminal in downtown Isla Mujeres. From there, Rincón del Descanso is a short 10-minute taxi ride or 15-minute walk along the Caribbean coast. Golf carts are also available for rent right at the terminal — the most popular way to get around the island.

Travel Tips
Luggage
Standard suitcases are fine on the ferry. There is a luggage area on the lower deck. No extra charge for bags.
Timing
Allow about 2 hours total from the airport to Rincón del Descanso — 30-40 minutes ground transport, 15-20 minutes ferry, plus wait and transfer time on the island.
Currency
Mexican pesos are preferred, but US dollars are widely accepted on the island. ATMs are available at the ferry terminal and in downtown Isla Mujeres.
Avoid Timeshare Vendors
At the airport, you may be approached by people offering "free" transportation. These are typically timeshare presentations. Politely decline and head directly to the official taxi stand or your pre-arranged transfer.
Need a hand with logistics?
Our concierge can arrange airport transfers, ferry ticket coordination, and golf-cart rentals on the island. Just let us know your flight details once your booking is confirmed, and we will take care of the rest. Many of our guests prefer this — it's one less thing to think about between landing in Cancún and the first margarita at the rooftop palapa.
